Behind The Scenes.
Sometimes I don't know who's crazier ? The drivers of the events or us lads. We normally turn up at a chosen venue a couple of hours or so before the action kicks off, This gives us the opportunity of walking the days course or sections to figure out where best to stand. Our time spent at events and experience in off-road photography generally gives us an insight as to where to capture the best images whilst staying on the right side of the course Marshals, If something is going to happen we rarely miss it.
All the images taken during a days photography are stored on Compact Flash cards. We have tended to standardise on Sandisk Extreme 3 Compact Flash cards, During the past couple of years they have been relied upon to save over 100,000 images without losing a single shot. We have the capacity of shooting well over 2,000 High Res (8.2MP) images on the move during a session without the need to download the files onto a PC. A couple of thousand images can soon be racked up, and between the 2 cameras we can comfortably capture 10 images per second for when the action really hots up !.
Once in the comfort of somewhere warm and dry the files are then downloaded to a PC where the images are run through professional software to optimise what the camera has captured. This same software is also used to produce the copyrighted images which are displayed on this and other sites. Once the images have got to this stage they are then available for customers to purchase in various formats.
Buying the images in electronic format is proving popular as the pictures can be viewed at your leisure on your PC at home or work. Even most of today's household DVD players will play them back as a slide show to be viewed whilst sat in your favourite armchair. Other options include desktop images of a selected driver which are cropped to look the business as a desktop/screensaver on your PC so you can show off to family, friends and work colleagues. Prices range from as little as £5.00 which is a fraction of the cost other photographers are charging.
Should you prefer a high quality image to put on your wall or in an album we can do that as well, the above image was taken by Lee at The Goodwood Festival Of Speed in 2006, as you can see its been toyed with a bit (easily done, WE can modify at YOUR request). Our images are sent away electronically to a professional photographic company who turn our images into the highest quality photographic prints, not even the latest version Inkjet can get anywhere near the quality we insist on in a final print. To prove a point to a client we had the above shot printed at a size of 30 inches x 20 inches. (the same size as the viewing area on a modern 32 inch TV ) even at this size we cannot see any pixilation in the image, It looks mint. So go on treat yourself or a loved on to something they can look back on and bring a smile to their face. We are relied upon come rain or shine to turn up at various locations around the UK to provide coverage of events. This is done at the moment at no charge to the organisations which are provided with FREE coverage of their events. Shot In Digital rely on your continued support in purchasing our work as the travelling costs, time and effort is all at our expense. We hope you enjoy visiting this site and hope to offer you our services for years to come. Thank you.
FAQ : Why create the Shot In Digital website? I have enjoyed taking pictures at motorsport events for a number of years and it seemed only fair to share the results with whom ever may be interested in viewing them, whether it be the participants from that days event, friends and family or just a motorsport fan who wants to keep an eye on events in their region. Who designed this website ?, That ones down to me, Although I am a novice with no previous experience in developing websites I felt being able to change and update the site and its galleries within hours of leaving an event gives me the flexibility the site needs rather than paying a company to do it for me. Lets be honest it's not flash but it works.
The galleries can be slow to upload ? This can be noticed if you are still on dial-up. I am afraid the site was built with broadband user in mind. Broadband speeds and availability are increasing all the time so any delay you have should become less of a problem in the future. Alternatively for a small charge of £5.00 (plus p&p) I can send you a disk with all the available thumbnail images from a specific event.
What types of motorsport can you cover ? You name it, If its got wheels we have probably photographed it, events such as British Touring Cars, British Superbikes, National and International Rallying, The Goodwood Festival of Speed / Goodwood Revival, Hill Climbs, Jet Skiing, Air Displays Drag Racing, MotoX, RallyX and of course providing full photographic coverage for Off-Road clubs and sites across much of the country. (If your event needs a photographer please drop me an e-mail)
Why buy prints rather than just viewing thumbnails all the time ? The images shown in my galleries are great for seeing what went on at an event but have been drastically reduced in file size in order to allow the site to work effectively. Each camera/lens setup used by Shot In Digital cost over 2 Grand and although you may have a ?? Megapixel camera of your own at an event, Its unlikely to be able to produce the same results achieved by us using a professional D-SLR combination in experienced hands.
Who prints your images ? Surely you just print the images of at home - WRONG, all our images are run through professional editing software before being uploaded to a professional Photo Lab who then post the images back to me, usually within 7 working days. We do not supply inkjet prints rattled off on a a so called photo quality printer, and never will do so don't ask.
What type of equipment do we use and why ? All the digital equipment ever used by Shot In Digital has been Canon, there is no specific reason for this other than once a photographer, amateur or professional starts buying kit from a specific manufacturer the incompatibility of the lenses doesn't really allow you to start chopping and changing as you feel like it. If you have cash tied up in a specific brand of lenses you might as well stick with cameras to suit. There are a couple of other worthwhile brands out there capable of producing top notch results, we will stick with Canon for now, I regard their lenses as being superior (In my opinion). A full list of equipment can be found on this page.
